The Kingdom Hall

A Simple, Welcoming Place of Worship

All meetings take place at our Kingdom Hall at 35 Rosewood Drive, Amherst, Nova Scotia. The hall is a straightforward, well-maintained building — no elaborate décor, no candles or icons. It is simply a meeting room designed for Bible discussion and congregational worship.

Seating is open — guests may sit anywhere they feel comfortable. Members typically arrive a few minutes early and are happy to introduce themselves and point visitors to the right place. Children are welcome, and a parent's lounge area is usually available near the main hall for families with young children.

There is no admission fee, no collection plate, and no obligation to identify yourself or provide any personal information when you attend.

Meeting Format

What Happens at a Typical Meeting

Jehovah's Witnesses hold two main types of meetings each week. Both are structured, interactive, and open to the public.

Midweek Meeting — "Our Christian Life and Ministry"

This meeting runs approximately one hour and covers practical Bible application. It includes a reading and discussion of a Bible passage, demonstrations of how to share beliefs with neighbours, and encouragement for Christian living throughout the week. It is interactive — congregation members are invited to comment and answer questions from the material being discussed.

Weekend Meeting — Public Talk & Watchtower Study

The weekend gathering consists of two parts. The first is a 30-minute public talk on a Bible theme — accessible and straightforward, designed for all audiences including new visitors. The second is a group study of an article from the Watchtower publication, where the congregation discusses Bible-based answers together. The full session runs approximately one hour and 45 minutes.

Congregational Singing

Each part of a meeting typically opens and closes with singing. Songs are Scripture-based hymns from our own collection, played from sound equipment, with lyrics displayed or available in song books. Participation is encouraged but never mandatory — first-time visitors are simply invited to listen.

No Clergy or Pulpit Hierarchy

There is no paid clergy at a Kingdom Hall. Talks are given by congregation elders — men who serve voluntarily and without salary. Everyone in attendance is considered a fellow student of the Bible. This creates an atmosphere of equality and openness that many first-time visitors find refreshing.

Preparing for Your First Visit

Helpful Tips for New Visitors

What should I wear? Most members dress respectfully and modestly — business casual is common, but there is no strict dress code. Come in a way that feels comfortable and appropriate to you. The important thing is that you attend.

Do I need to bring anything? Nothing is required. If you have a Bible, you are welcome to bring it. Materials used during the meeting may be followed on personal devices or printed copies made available at the hall.

Will anyone approach me? Members are friendly but not pushy. You may be greeted warmly, but no one will follow up or pressure you in any way after you leave. The decision to return — or not — is entirely yours.

Can I bring my children? Yes. Children attend meetings regularly in our congregation and are considered part of the worship setting. Meeting content is designed to be understandable for a range of ages.
